Basic Info
Name:North Texas Blitz Hegemony
Bio
This LiveJournal serves as the information page for the North Texas Blitz Hegemony, a blitz chess club run by [info]gurdonark. This chess club is devoted to holding chess tournaments played according to blitz chess rules (in which each side receives five minutes to make all his or her moves, in a sudden-death format), and to other tournaments with quick, non-boring time controls. The club intends to bring to Collin County, Texas, the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex, and, indeed, all of north Texas, a sense that blitz chess may not be chess, quite, but it sure can be fun. Click on the name "NorthTexasBlitz" above to see the posts about club activities.

The credo of the club is simple--good fun at high speed. Tournaments feature low entry fees, gag prizes, an emphasis on sportsmanship and fun, and
events which can be completed from registration to the finish of the last round in a very few hours. Although the club's usual tournament sites are game rooms in Allen and Garland, [info]gurdonark plans to travel all over north Texas, setting up, directing and playing in tournaments in outdoor public parks, and anyplace else that a few board and chess clocks can be set up for quick blitz. The World Blitz Chess Association, or WBCA,

The club is now affiliated with the World Blitz Chess Association, and will soon be a United States Chess Federation affiliate. WBCA permits players to play rated games and receive its magazine for a low annual fee, but also permits non-WBCA players to pay a few dollars more entry fee and play without joining. The club does not feature any local dues or bureaucracy, but is instead a neighborhood tournament platform. Rather than having a focus on "high dollar" events, the club will focus on smaller events. Those wishing to arrange a chess tournament in their area may contact [info]gurdonark via e mail at gurdonark@aol.com.

Although entry fees will remain low, any net entry fee proceeds after rating fees and modest facility will be donated to the the Goodrich Center, an advocacy center for the deaf and hard of hearing. The chess club is intended to be part of the community, and giving back to the community in this way helps keep things real.

Although some of the posts will be of purely local interest, all who are interested in blitz chess are welcome to befriend this club, as the club needs all the friends it can get. Anyone interested in being on a club e mailing list about upcoming events should write to Gurdonark@aol.com.

Let's all enjoy getting blitzed, in the most straight edge way possible.

Other great chess clubs exist in the Dallas area, such as the:
Dallas Chess Club

Watauga Chess Club.
